Kurt Sutter‘s “The Bastard Executioner” was just executed by FX after one season.
The writer’s post-“Sons of Anarchy” project never really found an audience, something Sutter acknowledged in media ads announcing the series’ summary exodus from the airwaves.
“The audience has spoken and unfortunately the word is ‘meh,’” he wrote. “So with due respect, we bring our mythology to an epic and fiery close.”
Sutter used some space to thank his cast and crew. He shouted out FX, Brian Grazer, Dana Walden, Gary Newman, Bert Salke, WME and John Landgraf — among others — saying, “I thank my partners for their trust, support, and tireless effort as I slashed my way through 50 years of Catholic angst.”
“The Bastard Executioner” received a 10-episode order from FX in May — and lukewarm critical reviews shortly thereafter.
Sutter’s more-heralded — and successful — “Sons of Anarchy” came to a close in December.
