Kit Harington fans may not get to see Jon Snow for a while thanks to “Game of Thrones” final season’s unknown release date, so here’s something to tide you over.
BBC One released the first look and first teaser for its upcoming miniseries “Gunpowder” about the infamous Guy Fawkes plan to blow up the House of Lords. Harington stars not as Fawkes, but as Robert Catesby, a Warwickshire gentleman who was the actual driving force behind the plot.
“Fawkes will light the fuse. And I, Robert Catesby, will blow the king and all his men to hell,” Harington says in the short teaser.
Of course, it’s hard to ignore Harington’s big claim to fame, so in social media promotions, the BBC has coined the phrase “autumn is coming.” It doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as “remember the fifth of November,” probably the most commonly known saying in regards to Guy Fawkes.
The three-part series also stars Peter Mullan (“Trainspotting”) as Father Garnet, Mark Gatiss (“Sherlock”) as Spymaster Robert Cecil, Liv Tyler (“The Lord of the Rings”) as Ann Vaux and Tom Cullen (“Downton Abbey”) as Guy Fawkes.
The series was developed by Ronan Bennett, Kit Harington and Daniel West, and is written by Ronan Bennett, directed by J Blakeson and produced by Kudos in association with Thriker Films.
Ollie Madden and Stephen Wright are executive producing. Harington and West are co-executive producers. Laurie Borg is producing.
So far, “Gunpowder” doesn’t have a release date, but BBC One would be missing an opportunity if it didn’t premiere the drama on Nov. 5.
