As Bravo’s “The Millionaire Matchmaker” faces questions over whether it vetted the man it paired Kenya Moore — a man who turned out to be married — a show insider says James Freeman was definitely single when he signed up for the dating series.

“Kenya and James’ episode of ‘The Millionaire Matchmaker’ was shot in early November of last year,” the insider told TheWrap Wednesday. “James was single when filming the episode, but we’ve recently learned that he got married on Apr. 3, 2015.”

As to what went wrong between the commercial real estate agent and Kenya, the insider would only say, “Unfortunately it didn’t work out between Kenya and James, but only he and Kenya can speak to why.”

Kenya appeared on Patti Stanger’s Bravo series in an episode that aired on Mar. 26. A short time later, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star posted a photo of herself with Freeman on Instagram along with the gushing caption: “Sometimes you can spend your whole life looking for Prince Charming when a King arrives.”

On May 1, she even went as far as to share a picture of herself wearing an engagement ring and coyly writing, “Anything can happen in Vegas,” before deleting the photo.

But things between the two soured with Kenya claiming in a statement Tuesday on social media that James married another woman behind her back.

“Unfortunately, I just learned today that the man I met and fell in love with from ‘Millionaire Matchmaker’ was married a week after the show aired,” she wrote. “I am astounded and devastated to have learned of this news VIA social media as opposed to from him directly.”

However, Freeman’s new wife insists the former Miss USA is telling tall tales, and that he only went on two or three dates with her before moving on, according to a new interview.

Kenya has since made her Instagram page private. But amid the drama, she posted an excerpt Wednesday on Facebook from Maya Angelou‘s inspirational poem “Still I Rise.”

“You may write me down in history, With your bitter, twisted lies, You may trod me in the very dirt, But still, like dust, I’ll rise,” she wrote, along with the hashtag #‎Mayaangelou‬.

Representatives for Kenya and Bravo did not immediately return TheWrap‘s requests for comment.
