Is it true? Mmmmmm-hmmmmmm.
Kel Mitchell, who older Nickelodeon fans may remember as the orange-soda loving goofball on “Kenan & Kel,” is set to make his return to the network on the new series “Game Shakers.”
Mitchell will play rapper Double G on the show, which focuses on two twelve year old girls who start a successful gaming company. They bring in Double G to be their new partner.
“I get to play a hip-hop mogul who is the comedic version of artists like Kanye, Diddy, Eminem and 50 Cent,” Mitchell said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “Double G is a rapper/singer/dancer/entrepreneur/investor, which gives us great story lines on the show.”
“I love playing such a wild character, because you will see some great physical comedy, but he also has heart; he is a single dad that loves his son, Triple G, played by the very talented Benjamin ‘Lil P-Nut’ Flores, Jr,” Mitchell continued. “There are so many layers to this character that it is one of those dream-come-true roles.”
The series is the brainchild of Dan Schneider, who previously worked with Mitchell on “Kenan & Kel” and the kids-oriented sketch show “All That.”
Mitchell has worked steadily since “Kenan & Kel” ended it’s run back in 2000. He has done extensive voice acting, including roles on shows like “Clifford the Big Red Dog” and “Pink Panther & Pals.” He has also appeared on TV series “Wild Grinders” and “Da Jammies.”
No word yet on whether or not “Saturday Night Live” star Kenan Thompson will reunite with Mitchell on the show. “Game Shakers” does not have an official premiere date, but it is expected to debut in the later summer or early fall of this year.
