Kelly Clarkson is a Sam Smith fan.
The singer, who graduated from “American Idol” over a decade ago, covered Smith’s breakout hit “Stay With Me” (above) while performing in Chicago last Thursday.

“I love this song,” Clarkson said. “I know you probably heard it a bunch, but just bear with me. ”
Her fans seemed happy to do so, and the cover — captured on camera by an audience member — has already racked up over 220,000 views on YouTube.
