Keegan-Michael Key is in final negotiations to join Twentieth Century Fox’s reboot of the sci-fi action franchise “The Predator,” TheWrap has confirmed.
Shane Black is directing the film. He also wrote the script with Fred Dekker.
Boyd Holbrook toplines the ensemble cast that includes Trevante Rhodes (“Moonlight”) and Olivia Munn. Holbrook and Rhodes play ex-Marines while Munn plays a scientist. Key will play an individual who teams up with Boyd Holbrook and Trevante Rhodes to fight the Predator.
The setting for “The Predator” takes place in a suburban environment, with production being eyed to begin in late February.
Key is best known for his work on Comedy Central’s “Key and Peele,” the sketch show he created with Jordan Peele. Key reprised one of the show’s favorite recurring characters, Luther, Obama’s anger translator, Thursday on “The Daily Show.”
Key’s recent film appearances includes 2015’s “Tomorrowland” and “Vacation” while also headlining 2016’s comedy “Keanu.” Key was last seen in Fox’s comedy “Why Him?”
Key is repped by UTA, Principato-Young Entertainment and Bloom Hergott.
The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news of Key’s involvement with the film.
