Keanu Reeves is returning to indie territory once again, as the actor is set to star in "Generation Um," Reeves' representation has confirmed to TheWrap.
Mark L. Mann will direct the indie drama from his own script, which tracks a day in the life of John (Reeves) and two beautiful female companions (Bojana Novakovic & Adelaide Clemens) as they immerse themselves in sex, drugs and indecision (hence the title) and embark on a path of self-discovery. How very indie, indeed.
I've always preferred Reeves' low-key performances in indie fare such as "My Own Private Idaho," "Feeling Minnesota" and "Thumbsucker" to his dumbed-down work in big-budget blockbusters, so "Generation Um" sounds like a potentially promising project for the "Matrix" star.
Alison Palmer developed the script with Mann and will producing for Company Films. She recently co-exec produced another Reeves film, "Henry's Crime," will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Lemore Syvan and Caroline Kaplan will also produce "Generation Um," while Oscar-winning "Hurt Locker" producer Nicolas Chartier is exec producing with Jared Goldman ("Solitary Man").
Chartier will try to find distribution for the picture at Toronto and his company, Voltage Pictures, also has the Rachel Weisz drama "The Whistleblower" at the festival.
Production began today in New York City.
Reeves recently co-starred opposite Robin Wright in a well-received turn in "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee." He's joined in "Henry's Crime" by Vera Farmiga and James Caan.
Novakovic played Mel Gibson's daughter in "Edge of Darkness," and she'll next be seen in the M. Night Shyamalan-produced "Devil."
Clemens has been cast in George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road," and she recently wrapped roles in the indie films "Vampire" and "Certainty."
