Down goes “Blurred Lines!” Down goes “Blurred Lines!”
Robin Thicke‘s unshakable summer hit has been bounced from the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart after a record-threatening 12 weeks – and it took Katy Perry to do it.
Perry’s “Roar” this week took the top spot, becoming the pop priestess’ eighth No. 1 single — and bumping “Blurred Lines” down to No. 2.
Perry got a nice bump from the MTV Video Music Awards; she closed the show performing “Roar” from an outdoor boxing ring in Brooklyn Bridge Park, then enjoyed a 25 percent uptick in sales on iTunes.

Thicke’s 12-week run put it in good company, and threatened the Mariah Carey/Boyz II Men collaboration “One Sweet Day,” which holds the record with 16 consecutive weeks at No. 1 in 1995-’96.
Pop-chart nemesis Lady Gaga‘s single “Applause” – which dropped the same time as “Roar” — slipped to No. 6.
