Katrina vanden Heuvel Rips Bill Kristol on ‘This Week’: ‘You Should Enlist in the Iraqi Army’ (Video)

Emotions get heated on ABC’s “This Week” when the liberal commentator calls the Republican strategist an “armchair warrior”

ABC’s Sunday talk show “This Week” erupted in an intense showdown between “The Nation” editor Katrina vanden Heuvel and conservative panelist Bill Kristol over what should be done over growing sectarian violence in Iraq.

Vanden Heuvel suggested Kristol suit up for war if he is so gung-ho about taking further military action.

“There is no military solution to Iraq,”  she said. “And I have to say, sitting next to Bill Kristol, man — I mean, the architects of catastrophe that have cost this country trillions of dollars, thousands of lives — there should be accountability… This country should not go back to war. We don’t need armchair warriors. And if you feel so strongly, you should, with all due respect, enlist in the Iraqi army.”

“That’s a very cute line, Katrina,” Kristol said.

“No, no. But it’s real,” she replied. “A million Iraqis have been displaced. You read that story. Humanitarian aid. What we have done to that country is a crime.”

Kristol responded that President Bush paid politically for his mistakes in Iraq, but Obama was taking the wrong course of action.

“This president pulled out of Iraq in 2011,” he said. “He let the Syrian civil war explode. And now we have a terrible situation.”
