Katie Holmes’ ‘Ray Donovan’ Role Draws Mixed Reviews on Social Media

“Nice to see her doing dark twisted roles like before Tom Cruise. She’s way more interesting that way,” Twitter user writes of actress’s turn opposite series star Liev Schreiber

Katie Holmes’ appearance in Sunday’s Season 3 premiere of Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” divided fans of the series.

Many took to social media to voice their surprise to see Holmes in the gritty Showtime drama. Some were pleased to see the former “Dawson’s Creek” star taking on a dramatic role in an edgier series. Holmes plays Paige Finney, the manipulative daughter of a billionaire Hollywood producer (Ian McShane) who enlists the services of Liev Schreiber’s titular fixer.

“Nice to see her doing dark twisted roles like before Tom Cruise. She’s way more interesting that way,” wrote Twitter user @NancytheDestryr.

But  the surprise wasn’t a good one for some who characterized the actress as a “lightweight.”

“#RayDonovan added Ian McShane to the cast, but like a sports trade they had to accept Katie Holmes as part of the deal to get McShane,” wrote Twitter user @JLCauvin, referencing the “Deadwood” star who plays her father on the show."Ray Donovan" Season 3, Katie Holmes as Paige, Ian McShane as Andrew (Michael Desmond/Showtime)

“Still not a Katie Holmes fan…” wrote another Twitter user. Yet another predicted that Holmes would be cut from the series by episode 3 or 4.

“Ray Donovan” airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime. Non-subscribers can watch an edited version of the Season 3 premiere below or on Showtime’s site.
