Katie Holmes (“Dawson’s Creek, “Wonder Boys”) has total creative control over her next project, “Rare Objects,” a movie adaptation of Kathleen Tessaro’s novel.
An individual with knowledge of the production confirmed to TheWrap that Holmes is directing, producing, co-writing and starring in “Rare Objects.” The film, produced by Holmes’ Lafayette Pictures and Yale Productions, has already begun production in New York.
The script was co-written by Phaedon Papadopoulos. The list of producers also includes Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman and Jesse Korman of Lafayette Pictures/Yale Productions, with Shaun Sanghani of SSS Entertainment and Mark Maxey.
“Rare Objects,” set in the Great Depression, tells the story of Maeve, who aspires to be more than just the daughter of Irish immigrants. But instead of realizing her dreams, Maeve falls to the lure of men and alcohol and ends up in a mental asylum. Tessaro is also the author of the bestselling novel “The Perfume Collector.”
Executive producers include John Wollman, Sabine Stener, Lee Broda, Joel Michaely, Jason Kringstein, Matt Parker, Carly Hugo and IFC Productions. John Keeyes and Mike Day serve as co-producers. Holmes is represented by ICM Partners, Untitled Entertainment and Sloane, Offer.
