Kat Dennings brings the laughs from a very dark place on “2 Broke Girls,” and apparently that comes naturally to her. On “Conan,” she revealed her goth past, which was largely inspired by Christina Ricci.

Dennings was five years old when the first “Addams Family” movie came out in 1991 and seven when “Addams Family Values” premiered. And she certainly wasn’t the only person enamored with Ricci’s star-making turn as Wednesday Addams, the family’s precocious and very dark daughter.
“I went through a phase where I thought I was Wednesday Addams. I would introduce myself as Wednesday to strangers,” Dennings admitted. “It was just straight drama. I was a very dramatic child.”

That prep work as a youngster may have helped mold her into the comedic actress she’s become. Certainly there’s a similarity between her deadpan delivery on “2 Broke Girls” and Ricci’s monotone performance in the “Addams Family” films.
The fourth season of “2 Broke Girls” premieres Monday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. “Conan” airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET on TBS.
