It seems like anything goes for the farewell season of “American Idol,” including a very famous and uber-successful rap artist “auditioning” for the show.
Host Ryan Seacrest seemingly used his “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” executive producer pull to grab Kim Kardashian and husband Kanye West for a cameo during the opening rounds of the upcoming final run of Fox’s competition series. The judges had some fun playing along, and West was quite game himself.
Keith Urban kicked off the ruse by asking his latest candidate the usual question: “What’s your name and where are you from?”
“My name is Kanye, I’m from the South Side of Chicago,” West played along.
“Originally a producer,” the rapper replied, “always wanted to rap, but nobody really believed in me.”
“I just wanted to do something original,” West said after his “Gold Digger” song selection. “It has one of the judge’s names in it, so.”
Outside, Seacrest interviewed a very pregnant Kardashian-West, who was pulling for her hubby. Fortunately, the emcee got a golden ticket and is heading to Hollywood — otherwise, that might have been awkward.
The final season of “American Idol” kicks off Wednesday night on Fox.
