Justin Bieber did a fakeout surprise for Ellen DeGeneres‘ birthday on Thursday’s episode of her syndicated talk show. She set it up by introducing a video birthday greeting from the singer and Calvin Klein model, but then he asked why he was doing the video if he was in the studio.
He walked out to an extended roar from the studio audience, offering DeGeneres flowers and CK underwear.
When DeGeneres tried to talk to him about the advertising campaign, Bieber was notably quiet, only saying that it was fun to do. He later said, “I haven’t been on TV in a while, so I’m nervous.”
But if there was one place he should be comfortable, it would be on “Ellen.” As DeGeneres pointed out, her show was the first television appearance he made back when he was 15 years old. She even had the picture to prove it.
Bieber also talked a little about his upcoming Comedy Central Roast for his 21st birthday. “I think it’s cool just to be able to laugh at yourself,” he said.
The singer admitted there was another reason he was excited to do the special. “I’ve done some things that might not have been the greatest,” he said. “I just want to be able to … own up to some of the things.”
