‘Justified’ Pays Succinct Tribute to Elmore Leonard

"Take it easy, Elmore"

Elmore Leonard liked to get to the point, so the star and creator of "Justified" did just that in paying tribute Tuesday.

“We were blessed by the time we got to spend with him and we will miss him. Our thoughts are with his family. Take it easy, Elmore," said "Justified" creator Graham Yost, star Timothy Olyphant, and the show's cast and crew.

"PS," they added. "We wrote longer versions of this statement, but as Elmore always said: Leave out the parts people tend to skip.”

Leonard (pictured above with Yost and Olyphant) died Tuesday at 87.

FX CEO John Landgraf used slightly more words in honoring the author, who wrote the short story that inspired the series. "Justified" was one of dozens of screen adaptations of his work.

"Elmore Leonard was a treasure and one of the greatest contemporary American writers. 'Justified'was the first television show to successfully translate his work to television.  Elmore was thrilled by the way in which Graham, Tim and the rest of the 'Justified' creative team brought his characters to life. It was one of his proudest moments, and we are honored to have been a part it. He was a genius, and a gentleman, and he will remain in our hearts."
