“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” Universal’s second installment in the updated “Jurassic Park” franchise, crossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office on Thursday.
The movie, directed by J. A. Bayona and starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, is Universal’s seventh film ever to reach $1 billion worldwide.
“Fallen Kingdom” has beenNo. 1 movie at the international box office for four straight weeks–including two weeks in China, where it is the second-highest-grossing imported film this year and the fifth-highest-grossing import of all-time.
Universal joins Disney as the only studios to have at least two titles in three separate franchises reach that level of success: both “Jurassic World” films, the previous two “Fast & Furious” films, plus “Despicable Me 3” and “Minions.”
“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s” top grossing markets include China ($245.2 million), UK & Ireland ($47 million), Korea ($45.8 million), Mexico ($26.4 million), France ($24.6 million), Germany ($23 million), Spain ($22 million), Taiwan ($20 million).
