Julia Roberts will receive the Spotlight Award at 2014 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala.
The “Pretty Woman” star is once again in the thick of the Oscars race with her supporting turn in the screen adaptation of Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play “August: Osage County.” She won an Academy Award in 2000 for her role as a spunky legal assistant in “Erin Brockovich,” and was nominated for “Pretty Woman” and “Steel Magnolias.”
Other notable performances include “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “The Pelican Brief” and “Closer.”
The Gala will also present awards to previously announced honorees Steve McQueen, Sandra Bullock, Bruce Dern and Matthew McConaughey at an event on January 4 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The Festival runs January 3-13, 2014.
“Julia Roberts is a consummate actress with a range as vast as her talent,” the festival’s chairman Harold Matzner said in a statement. “Her ability to consistently give standout performances over the past 25 years is remarkable.”
Jessica Chastain, Amy Adams and Helen Hunt are among the actresses previously honored with the award.
