Julia Roberts & Charlize Theron Sought for ‘Snow White’ Movies

Rupert Sanders and Tarsem Singh are directing the rival projects for Universal and Relativity, respectively

A pair of Oscar winners are being sought to play villains in rival "Snow White" movies.

"Erin Brockovich" star Julia Roberts is being "courted" by Relativity to play the Evil Queen in Tarsem Singh's "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White," while Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" is a little further along in the casting process, as the studio is in negotiations with "Monster" actress Charlize Theron for the same sinister role in "Snow White and the Huntsman," according to Deadline.

Complicating matters is the fact that Theron may be close to landing a key role opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar Hoover movie. The two movies couldn't be more different, but Theron may be forced to choose one project over the other if her schedule can't accomodate both shoots.

Roberts would be a fantastic get for Relativity and could use a four-quadrant hit like "Brothers Grimm" will likely be, but the truth is that the actress is on every list in town and entertains plenty of offers.

Rupert Sanders is making his feature directorial debut with "Huntsman," a role for which Michael Fassbender is reportedly now the front-runner after Johnny Depp passed on the Universal's offer.. Of course, if he lands the role, Universal will basically be forced to cast a hot young actress as Snow White, because while Theron and Fassbender are both incredibly talented actors, neither is really a big box office draw.

Though the dueling "Snow White" movies are both on the fast track, they tell the beloved fairy tale quite differently. Ultimately, it'll be the dwarves who decide the financial fate of both projects.

Theron is represented by WME and One Talent Management, while Roberts is repped by CAA.
