“The Young Pope” star Jude Law revealed to the Television Critics Association press tour whether or not he has seen all the memes and jokes about the show on social media
“At the beginning of the week, I wasn’t really aware of what a meme was,” Law said. “Now I’ve become very aware. I love them, they’re very funny. They’re very imaginative.”
The series premiered in Europe in October and will launch on HBO this Sunday. Ahead of the American premiere, however, the internet has given the series a major meme treatment. Check out some of the many jokes at the series expense below.
The series tells the story of the beginning of Pius XIII’s pontificate. Previously known as Lenny Belardo (Law), he is a complex and conflicted character full of compassion towards the weak and poor. During the series, he will face the fear of being abandoned, even by God. However, he is not afraid to defend that same God and the world representing Him.
The series is a joint production of Sky, HBO and Canal+. All eight episodes are to be directed by Paolo Sorrentino, who is also known for directing the Academy Award-winning film, “The Great Beauty.” James Cromwell and Diane Keaton also star.
