Josh Hutcherson Joins Ron Howard’s ‘Project Imagination’ Competition; Will Star in Film Based on Winning Project

“Hunger Games” star joins the contest backed by Canon

Ron Howard has added a little star power incentive for potential contestants of his “Project Imagination: The Trailer” contest.

“The Hunger Games” star Josh Hutcherson has partnered with the “Rush” director and Canon, U.S.A. on the competition that invites amateur filmmakers to create trailers from footage of their everyday lives.

Hutcherson and Howard will choose the winner, and as in previous incarnations of the project, they will then inspire a Hollywood project. Hutcherson will produce and star in the film, though it’s unclear at this point if it will be feature-length or a short, like in 2011’s contest.

Josh Hutcherson is going to be a great addition, empowering a whole new generation to pick up a camera and realize they are far more creative than they give themselves credit for in their everyday life moments,” Howard said in a statement. “I encourage people to really have fun with their storytelling; who knows, the kid’s birthday party might end up looking like a horror film or a trailer for a fantastic thriller that could truly captivate us.”

Submissions open on Feb. 25 at imagination.usa.canon.com. “Project Imagination: The Trailer” is the third time Howard has partnered with Canon on similar contests. “Project Imagin8ion” kicked off the series in 2011, followed by “Project Imaginat10n” in 2012.
