“X-Men” producer Lauren Shuler Donner posted a photo Friday from a recent table read for her new Marvel series on Fox, and it’s got fans all stirred up.
The Twitter picture featured a number of actors that we knew were in the cast and one that we didn’t. “The Originals” star Joseph Morgan is seated among the group — so he must be in, right?
Not so fast, according to EW.
The website reported Saturday that Morgan was simply “filling in for the read-through.”
Mystery solved, we suppose, though that’s some pretty good talent for a mere stand-in. Oh, and even though Donner referred to the X-Men project in her tweet (twice, actually) as “Gifted,” that’s apparently just the working title.
“Title is not final and Morgan was just sitting in on the table read,” a Fox spokesperson tells TheWrap.
Whatever it’s called, the pilot follows Kate (Amy Acker) and Reed Stewart (Stephen Moyer), two ordinary parents who discover their children have abilities. Forced to go on the run from the government, they team up with an underground network of mutants, led by Sam (Blair Redford).
Jamie Chung plays Blink, who can teleport, and Emma Dumont is Magneto’s daughter Polaris. Percy Hynes White, Sean Teale and Natalie Alyn Lind also co-star on the show.
Matt Nix penned the pilot and will executive produce alongside Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.
Here’s Donner’s tweet with the photo in question:
