Finalists for the 2010 National Book Awards were announced on Wednesday. Among them: Peter Carey, the rocker Patti Smith and several Los Angeles Times contributors.
Not among them: Jonathan Franzen, whose "Freedom" — an Oprah book club selection — was left off the list of finalists.
