Jon Watts is in talks to direct the sequel to his own “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
The sequel is currently untitled but set for a release on July 5, 2019.
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” successfully launched with $117 million earlier this month and has since grossed $468.3 million worldwide. It stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei and Zendaya and was well-received by critics.
Holland is set to reprise the role as Peter Parker in the sequel, and will also take on the role in next year’s “Avengers: Infinity War.”
Watts’ previous credits include the $5 million indie “Cop Car” starring Kevin Bacon as well as 2014’s “Clown.” He is represented by CAA, Slate PR and Park Pictures.
