Don’t worry, Donald Trump; Jon Voight has your back.
“Midnight Cowboy” actor and notable showbiz conservative Voight has thrown his support behind the GOP presidential candidate, Breitbart reports.
“I’m not someone who’s saying he’s the best of this group. I’m saying I like this guy,” the Oscar-winning actor told Breitbart in an interview published Wednesday.
“He’s an answer to our problems. We need to get behind him,” Voight added. “The Republicans need to unite behind this man. We need somebody to go in and reconstruct us in a sort of way, get us back to where we were, who we need to be.”
Forging Republican unity behind Trump might be a bit of a trick. Last week, former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney threw major criticism in Trump’s direction, calling him a “phony,” a criticism he repeated on the ABC late-night show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” this week.
Meanwhile, GOP officials met with tech leaders last weekend to discuss how Trump’s bid for the presidency could be scuttled.
But Voight figured the opposition from Trump’s own party is due to the fact that he makes the other politicians look bad.
“There are many Republicans fighting to keep him from winning the Republican nomination. You know why? Because he has no bull to sell, and everyone will discover the bull most politicians spew out is for their own causes and benefits,” Voight opined. “They never dreamed they would be losing control.”
