Stephen Colbert needed a breather last night from talking about President Donald Trump’s latest national and international dumpster fires. Thankfully, “The Late Show” host keeps Jon Stewart under his desk for such an occasion.
The CBS late-night series went to the bullpen last night, calling in the retired lefty from “The Daily Show.” The casually dressed Stewart had plenty of gas left in the tank to take on Trump.
“We’re all still having a little trouble adjusting to your presidency as it goes into its 500th year,” Stewart addressed the POTUS directly into Colbert’s cameras.
“No matter what you do, it always comes with an extra layer of gleeful cruelty, and dickishness,” Stewart said. He later reiterated that the way Trump punctuates points and policies reflects “a Dickensian level of villainy.”
Without his own daily talk show to fill with political commentary, Stewart saw plenty of ground to cover on Colbert’s.
On Trump’s immigration reform disaster, for one example, Stewart echoed seemingly everyone else’s thoughts: “Boy, you f—ed that up,” he told the leader of the free world.
Stewart then became a bit more serious in his remarks to the commander in chief, even invoking some stern Abraham Lincoln language.
