Johnny Depp Tries to Solve Biggie and Tupac Murders in New ‘City of Lies’ Trailer (Video)

Crime thriller looks into the murder of The Notorious B.I.G.

A new trailer for “City of Lies” has been released, in which Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker play two men trying to find answers to one of the biggest unsolved crimes in history: “Who shot Biggie Smalls?”

“A murder like that only goes unsolved if the police don’t want to solve it,” Depp’s character, LAPD detective Russell Poole says. “20 plus years, and not one arrest.”

The thriller looks at the murder of The Notorious B.I.G. shortly after the death of Tupac. Poole has spent years trying to solve the crime, while Jackson (Whitaker) is a reporter desperate for answers.

In the process of working together, they uncover corruption and lies.

The trailer for “City of Lies” was released on what would have been Biggie’s 46th birthday. He was shot on March 9, 1997 by an unknown assailant in Los Angeles, California.

“City of Lies” was directed by Brad Furman and written by Christian Contreras, based on the novel by Randall Sullivan.

Global Road Entertainment will release the film on September 7.
