Johnny Depp is in hot water with some of his fans after he asked, “When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?” during an appearance Thursday at the annual Glastonbury music and arts festival in Southern England. Fans have threatened to boycott his movies following his comments, while others have asked for the Secret Service to investigate the actor.
“Johnny Depp I was a HUGE fan…but calling for the assassination of Pres Trump makes me want to boycott your movies!” one Twitter user wrote.
“For Threatening to assassinate POTUS the Secret Service should bring ‘Johnny Depp‘s’ in for interrogation,” said another.
A couple people also pointed out the insensitivity of his comments given that House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and other Republicans were shot during a Congressional baseball practice event just last week.
“While #SteveScalise is in critical condition, you ‘joke’ about assassination of the President of the United States?” said one user.
Some were also quick to defend Depp’s remarks, explaining that the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor never threatened to kill POTUS but simply “asked a question.”

During an appearance Thursday at the annual Glastonbury music and arts festival in Southern England, Depp said, “I think [Donald] Trump needs help. There are a lot of dark places he could go. I’m not insinuating anything — by the way this will be in the press and it will be horrible — but when was the last time an actor assassinated a president?”
This elicited loud cheers from the crowd, to which Depp said, “Don’t worry, I’m not an actor, I lie for a living.”
A representative for Depp has not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment.
