Just like the rest of the world, John Oliver had a few words after watching Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s fiery meeting with President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.
“Well, that depends, is watching the president s—t on a weaker ally for not wanting to be conquered while his goon MVP tries to see if he can wrap around his boss’s ass all from a neighboring couch through television,” Oliver said after Trump predicted his meeting with Zelenskyy would be “great television.” “I thought he was more, hit your TV with a hammer till the pain stops television.”
Oliver continued, pointing out how visually embarrassed everyone at the meeting appeared to be. Check out the video above.
“Reasonable people can agree, the whole spectacle was awful. The Ukrainian ambassador of the U.S. had her head in her hands,” Oliver said. “Marco Rubio seemed to be actively trying to sink inside the couch, and for what it’s worth, Zelenskyy has thanked Americans and the U.S. 33 times at the very least, which feels like enough. He shouldn’t be constantly urged to say thank you — he’s a president in the middle of a war, not a toddler opening a present from meemaw.”
The turbulent Friday meeting included Trump taking issue with Zelenskyy having only negative things to say about Russian president Vladimir Putin.
“Yeah, what’s Putin done to Zelenskyy, other than kill tens of thousands of people and cause untold damage to his country?” Oliver said. “Can’t he find anything good to say about him? Like, how his cheeks are puffy like a couple of Hawaiian rolls, or, how his horse definitely didn’t kill itself after this photoshoot.”
