“Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver was a guest on Wednesday’s episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” and unsurprisingly, talk between the two former “The Daily Show” alums turned to their mutual arch enemy, Donald Trump.
Earlier Wednesday, CNN reported that the president is willing, and wants, to talk to Special Counsel Robert Mueller. This is despite a Monday New York Times report that Trump’s own attorney’s “are concerned that the president, who has a history of making false statements and contradicting himself, could be charged with lying to investigators.”
“I don’t doubt that he wants to talk,” Oliver told Colbert in response to the latest report. “But he’s going to have to physically get through his lawyers first. He’s going to have to eat his way through his hands over his mouth … He would perjure himself before he finished his name.”
It was at this point that Colbert said that, “I think he would do a good job and I think he should do it,” then looked directly at the camera as if to convince Trump that he’s being completely sincere. Oliver then moved into the camera’s field of vision to concur, with the same amount of fake sincerity.
