In “Love Is Strange,” Ben (John Lithgow) and George (Alfred Molina) are a couple who have been living together for nearly four decades. When they finally tie the knot, their lives are immediately turned upside down, as revealed in the first trailer released for Ira Sachs‘ Sundance hit.
George is a music teacher at a Catholic school, and they’re none too pleased when they learn of his recent nuptials. Despite the school having known about his living arrangements for years, he’s promptly fired, and Ben and George are forced to find some new digs.

Unfortunately, they can’t find a place to live together … so while George moves in with a neighbor, Ben is shipped off to Brooklyn to live with his nephew and his family, including his wife played by Marisa Tomei. Sleeping in a child’s bunk bed, the new living arrangements aren’t the ideal situation for anyone involved.
Sony Pictures Classics will release the film on Aug. 22.
