Longtime Chicago Cubs fan John Cusack was spotted at Sunday night’s White Sox playoff game against the Houston Astros, and Barstool Sports’ Dave Williams — better known as “White Sox Dave” — was none too happy about it. So he decided to call the actor out — and Cusack bit right back.
In a video posted to Barstool Chicago’s Twitter account, Williams is seen approaching Cusack, who isn’t decked out in Southside gear, instead wearing all black. The two share a fist bump, before Williams starts digging in on Cusack and questioning his loyalties.
The actor was quick to defend himself, arguing that he grew up supporting both teams and citing the fact that he starred in “Eight Men Out,” a movie telling the story of the Black Sox Scandal, in which eight members of the Chicago White Sox conspired with gamblers to throw the 1919 World Series. Cusack added, “You can’t tell me where I can go. I can like whoever I want.”

Williams got progressively more irritated as the exchange went on, with Cusack quizzing him on whether he knew who certain White Sox players from previous years were. When Cusack pulled a few names Williams didn’t immediately place, the Barstool podcaster defended himself by noting he’s younger than the actor. “That proves your ignorance,” Cusack replied.
“Half the fun about being a fan is being miserable,” Williams insisted. When Cusack argued that he went to both parks — Wrigley Field and what is now Guaranteed Rate Field — Williams wasn’t impressed.
“That doesn’t count, you can’t do that! That’s like, against the rules,” Williams said. “That’s the best part of having Chicago is that you got two teams to root for.”
At that, Cusack ended the discussion by saying, “We’ll have to agree to disagree,” before fist-bumping Williams and walking away.
Later, Cusack vented about the encounter on Twitter, calling Williams a “pathetic little troll” and a “dough boy,” and even comparing him to Donald Trump Jr.
In the hours following the contentious confrontation, many fans sided with Cusack. “Can you imagine getting worked this hard by John Cusack and then posting it,” one fan tweeted.
