New Kids on the Block’s Joey McIntyre is set to play an exaggerated version of himself on Pop’s “The Joey Mac Project.”
The original series is inspired by the singer’s real life, as the grown-up boy band member tries to break into acting. Pop has ordered eight episodes of the half-hour comedy, which is executive produced by McIntyre along fellow “New Kid” Donnie Wahlberg.
Jenny McCarthy, Tim Gibbons (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Paul Greenberg (“Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris“) and Jenny Daly (“Storage Hunters,” “Hollywood and Football”) will also exec produce.
“I lucked out. What are the chances of me being cast as a character named Joey McIntyre?” said McIntyre. “But in all seriousness, if you love to laugh, we have a comedy gold team behind this project who have the secret sauce for funny TV … yes, I just said that.”
“I’ve worked with Joey since we were kids,” Wahlberg added, “but seeing all of his many talents come together in this show — I’ve never been more excited.”
“The Joey Mac Project” (working title) is produced by T Group Productions. Production kicks off this fall.
