Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa has landed a cameo role on the upcoming eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones,” TheWrap has learned.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport first reported the news, tweeting on Monday: “Source: #Chargers star pass-rusher Joey Bosa will make a cameo in an upcoming episode of @GameOfThrones. That is awesome (CC: loyal viewer, @TheBanktress). … Related: His brother Nick is in the NY area for the premiere and accordingly, will meet with the #Giants tomorrow.”
A spokesperson for the Chargers confirmed the casting to TheWrap, though no further details on Bosa’s part or what Season 8 episode he will appear in were available. HBO did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Bosa is a self-professed superfan of David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’ HBO series, telling Bleacher Report in a 2017 interview that “having an opportunity to meet the actors and be a part of my favorite show would be awesome.”
On landing a cameo he said: “Maybe one day. But as of now, no chance. I’m just not good at [acting]. I’ll either start laughing at myself if I’m trying to be serious, or I think I look super corny and won’t take myself seriously. I’ve tried all the time when we do video shoots. When they tell me to show some personality, I never like doing any of that. I’m awkward out there.”
Bosa will not be the first famous athlete to make a cameo on “GOT,” as New York Mets pitcher Noah Snydergaard showed on the series during Season 7.
“Game of Thrones” Season 8 premieres April 14 at 9/8c on HBO.
