The Aussie up-and-comer is taking matters into his own hands by writing "Felony," a new thriller in which he will also take a starring role.

Edgerton isn't a household name on this continent yet, but he's racked up some high profile roles since his acclaimed turn in last year's "Warrior."

He will be seen opposite Jennifer Garner in this summer's family drama "The Odd Life of Timothy Green," and will appear with Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan in "The Great Gatsby," which hits theaters this fall.

In "The Felony," Edgerton will play a police officer who runs a young cyclist off the road. His split-second decision to lie to his fellow officers about what happened before the accident sends his life into disarray.

The film will be directed by Matthew Saville ("Noise") and produced by Edgerton and Rosemary Blight of Goalpost Pictures Australia.

The film starts shooting in late October.

The Solution Entertainment Group will oversee international rights to the film, which it will shop at the Cannes Film Market. Roadshow Films will distribute in Australia and New Zealand. CAA is handling the US rights to the project.
