Fox Broadcasting president of marketing and communications Joe Earley has been promoted to chief operating officer.
The promotion is the first big personnel move for Kevin Reilly, who was promoted earlier this month from Fox's president of entertainment to chairman of entertainment. Earley will report to Reilly.
Earley will play a key management role in scripted programming, casting, scheduling, research, audience strategy, digital and business affairs, in addition to marketing and communications.
While Earley will be Reilly's right hand, Mike Darnell, president of alternative entertainment, will continue to report to Reilly.

As president of marketing and communications for the network, Earley was responsible for all Fox marketing, entertainment publicity, corporate communications and talent relations, as well as creative services, the company’s internal corporate marketing, promotion and special projects. He drove the strategy behind such recent hits as "Glee," "The New Girl" and "X Factor."

Earley joined FOX in 1994 as a senior publicist. He previously spent several years in media relations at HBO. He began his entertainment career in production and development with producer Gale Anne Hurd.
