Joaquin Phoenix is returning to "The Late Show with David Letterman" on Sept. 22, CBS announced Monday.
Phoenix's last appearance on the show in February 2009 was notably odd with awkward silences and led to questions as to Phoenix's sanity. That episode will be replayed Thursday.
His return visit is to promote the documentary "I'm Still Here," which opened in theaters last week and is playing in the Toronto International Film Festival. The film follows Phoenix's alleged burgeoning hip-hop career after he "quit" acting.
