A sequel to Spike Lee‘s “Do the Right Thing” was born on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Friday night, as the late-night host debuted “Do the Right Thing 2: Do the White Thing.”
Kimmel’s famous friends, including Zooey Deschanel, Rami Malek, Billy Crudup and Jay Duplass, all showed up to star in the sketch poking fun at the gentrification of Brooklyn.
“There used to be muggers right in this neighborhood stealing old ladies’ purses. Now those old lady purses are being worn ironically by hipsters in the area,” Kimmel joked in introducing the bit.
Rather than fights, vandalism and racial tension, the white people in “Do the White Thing” deal with issues like the environment, thrift store scarves, beards and of course, trigger words.
Rosie Perez, who danced in the iconic opening credits to “Do the Right Thing,” even got in on the fun, being seduced by Crudup and some ice cubs crafted from water hand-pumped from a sustainably harvested spring, and then frozen using bicycle power — naturally.
