Jim Carrey is rarely boring. But he took it to a previously unseen level last week at New York Fashion week, when the “Ace Ventura” star gave a red carpet interview to E! that at times resembled an ad hoc ecumenical debate about notions of celebrity and even existence itself. And Twitter is in love.
“There is no me. There are just things happening,” Carrey declared. “Here’s the thing. It’s not our world. We don’t matter. There’s the good news.”
The interviewer was perplexed that Carrey didn’t want to celebrate the “icons” that represented NYFW, and his response makes one wonder whether he was just trolling, was being brutally honest, or a bit of both.
“I wanted to find the most meaningless thing I could come to and join, and here I am. I mean, you’ve got to admit it’s completely meaningless,” Carrey said. He was then told that the event he was at was “celebrating icons, to which he snarked “Celebrating icons, boy that is just the absolute lowest-aiming, you know, possibility that we could come up with.”
“Do you believe in icons? I don’t believe in personalities,” he continued. “I don’t believe that you exist, but there is a wonderful fragrance in the air.”
The interviewer, by this point apparently genuinely taken aback, asked Carrey if he believes icons can “inspire others? You’re one of them?”
“I’m the good foot!,” said Carrey. “You shut her down now,” the comedian then sang.
“I don’t believe in icons,” he continued. “I don’t believe in personalities. I believe that peace lies beyond personality. Beyond invention in disguise. Beyond the red S that you wear on your chest that makes bullets bounce off. I believe that it’s deeper than that. I believe that we’re a field of energy dancing for itself. And I don’t care.”
“But Jim,” the interviewer rebutted. “You got dressed up for the occasion, you look good. Was that an accident?”
“No I didn’t get dressed up-”
“Who did?”
“There is no me. There are just things happening,” Carrey declared. “Here’s the thing. It’s not our world. We don’t matter. There’s the good news.”
Watch the whole beautiful thing below.
Well, you definitely can't say that Jim Carrey gives a boring interview: "There is no me. There's just things happening." pic.twitter.com/HatQ6mHsKp

E! clearly didn’t expect the newly philosophical Carrey, but no worry, because judging from the reaction on Twitter, the public has welcomed him with open arms.
The interviewer was so obnoxious with those faces and attitude. Its Jim Carrey what kind of interview did you think you were going to get

Probably a better one if she hadn't mentioned him looking for a gf at the beginning when his gf committed suicide just last year.

I love how she looks super annoyed but if this was jaden smith she'd probably think he was a genius

He's not wrong. We are nothing, yet everything, we don't matter. We're a bunch of atoms linked together, lol he's looking at the big picture

The interviewer could have just said "Alllllriiiiighty then…" and walked away. Would have *nailed it*.

Ok, maybe a few people think he’s a little nuts, but we’ve got no problem with that.
