Jim Carrey isn’t laughing, after the release of information about his ex-girlfriend Cathriona White’s suicide.
In a statement issued Thursday, “The Mask” star lamented the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office’s release of information from its autopsy report on White, who took her own life at age 28 in September.
“When I came to Hollywood to make it as a comedian, I soon learned that the details of my private life would be handed out to the media like free dinner vouchers,” Carrey said in the statement. “I never dreamed that the people I love most in the world would also be on the menu. What a shame.”
The actor concluded his statement, “Regrettably, Jim Carrey.”
White was found dead in her Sherman Oaks, California, residence, the coroner said in September, noting that “some pills” were found at the scene.
As reported by numerous media outlets earlier this week, an autopsy report released by the coroner’s office indicated that White had written a suicide note and a letter, which she addressed to Carrey.
“I’ve spent 3 days now in disbelief that you’re not here. I can go on brokenhearted and try to put the pieces back,” White reportedly wrote to Carrey. “I could, I just don’t have the will this time.”
Following White’s death, Carrey said that he was “shocked and deeply saddened” by her passing.
“She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled,” the actor said in a statement. “My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”
