Jim Carrey carried the casket of his late girlfriend, Cathriona White, at her funeral in Cappawhite, Tipperary, Ireland on Saturday.

People reported that Carrey “seemed terribly upset” during the service, but a source told the magazine that “it was nice that he carried her coffin … Cathriona’s sisters and family seemed very glad to have him there.”

According to People, Carrey arrived in Ireland early Friday morning to attend her wake in Cappawhite. The next day, White’s family gathered at her hometown parish church for a requiem Mass before walking to the local cemetery.

Cathriona White, the on-again-off-again girlfriend of actor Jim Carrey, was found dead on Sept. 28 after an apparent drug overdose in a residence in Sherman Oaks, California. Pills had been found near her body.

Carrey, 53, and White, 28, first started dating in 2012 but broke up shortly after. In May, they were seen together, allegedly rekindling their romance.

Shortly after her death, Carrey released a statement, reading “”I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”

On Saturday, the actor also tweeted a photo tribute to White:
