This isn’t Jessica Jones. It’s Jessica James.
Netflix released the first teaser trailer and release date for its upcoming film “The Incredible Jessica James,” in which Williams stars as the show’s namesake, a woman and aspiring playwright who’s struggling to get over a recent breakup.
Not pictured in the teaser is Chris O’Dowd (“Bridesmaids”), a recently divorced man named Boone who Jessica is forced to go on a date with. The two form an unlikely bond as they work to get over their recent problems together.
The teaser doesn’t show us much about the plot, but instead centers around Williams, who most recently was a correspondent on “The Daily Show” and co-hosts the podcast “2 Dope Queens.” Williams is charming and has a laid back energy that made her a standout when she was on Comedy Central. That’s on display here, as she dances like nobody’s watching (until somebody is), and weaves in and out of disastrous dates and waitressing gigs.
Lakeith Stanfield (“Atlanta”) and Noël Wells (“Master of None”) also star.

The film was written and directed by Jim Strouse (“People Places Things”) and was produced by Michael B. Clark and Alex Turtletaub of Beachside Films. Jessica Williams and Kerri Hundley serve as executive producers.
The film is set to premiere on Netflix July 28. Watch the teaser trailer above.
