Gun rights groups overwhelmingly support GOP candidates, contributing $5.9 million into Republican campaigns in the 2016 election cycle, according to Politico, compared with $106,000 to those of Democrats. It’s also the most money gun lobbyists have given in a campaign year since at least 1990.
In Chastain’s tweet, she shared an article that tracked every member of Congress who took money from the NRA and who shared “thoughts and prayers” to Vegas victims — an empty sentiment to many who view it as feckless in the fight to prevent and significantly curtail mass shootings.
