Jennifer Lopez is set to receive this year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award during the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, the singer revealed Tuesday during an interview with MTV News reporter Sway Calloway.
But that’s not all, as J. Lo is also scheduled to perform live at this year’s show in August — marking her first VMAs performance since 2001 — and is nominated for two VMA awards for her latest single, “Dinero.” Lopez is the most recent in a long line of Vanguard recipients, including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Guns N’ Roses, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Kanye West, Rihanna and P!nk.
Lopez and Calloway broke the news with an announcement on MTV at 2 p.m., which was followed by a Facebook Live interview on MTV’s official page.
The multi-hyphenate artist has sold 80 million records worldwide, 40 million albums, has 16 top 10 hit songs, and three No. 1 albums. Her Nuyorican Productions banner has produced numerous film and TV projects, including the box office hit “Boy Next Door,” Freeform’s award-winning series “The Fosters,” and the J. Lo-led NBC drama “Shades of Blue.”
Lopez is currently executive producing and starring on NBC’s summer competition series “World of Dance.” On the silver screen, she is starring in and producing STX’s upcoming feature film “Second Act,” which is slated for a Nov. 2018 release. In April 2018, Lopez was named one of TIME’s “100 Most Influential People.”
Bruce Gillmer and Jesse Ignjatovic are executive producing for the 2018 VMAs, with Melanie Block serving as Executive in Charge of Production and Amani Duncan as Executive in Charge of Music. Wendy Plaut is Executive in Charge of Celebrity Talent.
The “VMAs” will air live from Radio City Music Hall on Monday, Aug. 20 at 9/8c on MTV.
