You have to give Jennifer Hudson credit — she's certainly more forgiving than a lot of people in her position would be.
"American Idol" favorite and "Dreamgirls" star Hudson appeared on OWN's "Oprah's Next Chapter" on Sunday to discuss, among other things, the horrific tragedy that befell her family in 2008, when her estranged brother-in-law, William Balfour, murdered Hudson's sister Julia, mother Darnell Donerson and nephew Julian King.

During the sit-down, Hudson told Winfrey that she doesn't hold Balfour responsible for the murders, due to his upbringing.
"For the most part, it's not his fault," Hudson offered. "It's what he was taught, how he was brought up."

Hudson went on to say that Balfour "never had a chance."
"Had you had the love my mother gave us, or the background that, you know, some have, then you would've stood a chance," the singer-actress theorized.
That being said, Hudson, 30, told Winfrey that she had found Balfour to be untrustworthy as far back as grade school.
In May, a Chicago jury found Balfour guilty of three counts of first-degree murder, home invasion, residential burglary, aggravated kidnapping and possession of a stolen vehicle. He received three life sentences from Judge Charles Burns, who was far less forgiving than Hudson.
"Your heart is an arctic night, and your soul is as barren as dark space," Burns told Balfour during the sentencing.
