Every week on newsstands People magazine takes a look at the world of entertainment and the people who bring it to life. For the first time, that celebration exploded beyond the pages of the magazine onto our television screens as NBC broadcast the inaugural “People Magazine Awards” Thursday night.
The two-hour special was hosted by Nick Cannon (“America’s Got Talent”) and featured performances from 5 Seconds of Summer and “The Voice” coaches Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams, while Adam Levine performed with Maroon 5.
There were no repeat winners across 14 categories, making for a fun and varied broadcast. Jennifer Aniston took home top honors for a film actress for her performance in “Cake,” while Michael Keaton was honored for “Birdman.” On the television side, People honored Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”) and Lisa Kudrow (“The Comeback,” “Web Therapy”).
Other notable winners included Jennifer Lopez taking home the Triple Threat award, while Gwen Stefani was honored with the Style Icon award. Karlie Kloss was declared the Model of the Year, but Kate Upton took People’s Sexiest Woman. And Chloë Grace Moretz was chosen as the Next Generation Star to keep an eye on.
