"The Office" star Jenna Fischer will join Topher Grace, Malin Akerman and Chris Messina in the offbeat romantic comedy "The Giant Mechanical Man."
Lee Kirk is writing and directing the indie film, which will be produced by Molly Hassell, Michael Nardelli, Brent Stiefel and Fischer.
The story follows a soft-spoken zoo worker (Fischer) who falls for a misunderstood street performer (Messina). Akerman will play Fischer's well-meaning sister who pushes her towards dating a pompous motivational speaker (Grace).
The plot feels a little familiar, but I love the talent that WME packaged for this project.
Michael Cowan of U.K.-based Stealth Media will sell international rights, while WME Independent will handle North American sales.
Production is scheduled to start later this month in Detroit.
