Jeff Robinov‘s Studio 8 has signed Brian Kavanaugh-Jones‘ production outfit Automatik to a first-look deal at the Sony-based company, TheWrap has learned.
Kavanaugh-Jones recently produced “Insidious: Chapter 3” and the upcoming Nicholas Hoult-Felicity Jones movie “Autobahn.” He’s also a producer on Jeff Nichols’ star-studded sci-fi movie “Midnight Special,” which Warner Bros. will release on Nov. 25.
Automatik is currently prepping writer-director Zack Whedon’s “Come and Find Me,” an indie that will star Aaron Paul and Annabelle Wallis.
Both Robinov and Kavanaugh-Jones aim to make filmmaker-driven movies, so the partnership makes sense on that level. Studio 8 also has deals with LBI and former BFI Film Fund chief Tanya Seghatchian.
Last year, Automatik formed a partnership with Grandview, a management company run by Jeff Silver and Matt Rosen that Kavanaugh-Jones advises on production and packaging.
Studio 8 has secured up to $1 billion in financing and plans to release up to six films a year through Sony, starting with Ang Lee‘s adaptation of “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.”
