The Wrap has partnered with Canvs, the emotion analytics company, for a weekly look at some of the characters and personalities that have TV viewers the most worked up on social media. The data below covers June 28 through July 4 and is drawn from the most emotionally reacted-to television shows, including broadcast, cable, streaming and PPV.
There were 61,313 Emotional Reactions (ERs) shared during a controversial boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn, broadcast on ESPN. Pacquiao, an American fan favorite, was expected to win, but Horn, a school teacher from Australia, not only emerged victorious but barely (just barely) beat out Pacquiao for online mentions as well. Thousands of the viewers expressed shock, with people commenting about the craziness of the match and some protesting the results.

During the premiere of season 19 of “Big Brother” on CBS (41,063 ERs), viewers were treated to a shocking twist when Paul Abrahamian waltzed into the house, ready to take a contestant’s place. Abrahamian, a clothing designer from California, was the runner-up on season 18 of “Big Brother,” so fans were familiar with him, making the surprise that much more compelling. In general, people were excited to see him return (he was mentioned in almost a quarter of all ERs expressing excitement) — but others weren’t as thrilled.

Although the most recent episode of VH1’s “Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta” (17,520 ERs) was filled with drama surrounding Kirk and Rasheeda (including much-anticipated paternity test results), it was Joseline who had viewers the most emotional. The fiery and often disagreeable reality TV star, who’s been a main “LHHATL” character since the beginning, dropped major hints that she would not be returning to the show. Viewers had mixed feelings, with some maintaining their love for Joseline while others scoffed and called her crazy.
