The back-and-forth between Jimmy Kimmel and the Trump administration continued on Thursday night as the late night host took aim at Vice President JD Vance for slamming Kimmel’s audience.
The war of words began earlier this week when Kimmel joked about Elon Musk’s plummeting Tesla stock in the wake of his DOGE cuts on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Sean Hannity and the Right came out hard against the late night host, and Kimmel doubled down on Thursday night as he played clips of Fox News hosts and guests threatening anyone who vandalizes a Tesla with violence in return.
“But if you try to taser a cop on the steps of the capital, we’ve got your back,” Kimmel quipped before he made a nod to MAGA’s similar Bud Light boycott (and the hypocrisy therein) and then segued into a segment about Vance.
“Everyone needs to crack open a Bud Light and relax already. Even the vice president took a break from humping his ottoman to complain about not just me, you,” Kimmel said before playing video of Vance appearing on a podcast. But in place of a regular photo of Vance, who was not on camera for the podcast appearance, Kimmel showed an escalating series of JD Vance memes.
“I will say in the defense of the American people, Jimmy Kimmel’s show is so unfunny and boring and left-wing that it’s probably not representative,” Vance is heard saying on the podcast as a doctored image of the VP wearing a rainbow hat and holding a lollipop graced the screen. “If you go to a Jimmy Kimmel showing you have to really be a humorless scold.”
Kimmel snapped back: “Did you hear him he called you humorless scolds? What is wrong with you people? Are you trying to make JD’s mascara run? A humorless scold. Who talketh like that? The Archbishop of Cantebury?”
Kimmel then questioned why the vice president was spending any time taking aim at a late night talk show host.
“Sometimes I wonder in what world is the Vice President of the United States calling into a giant-toothed podcast host to badmouth me and the people who watch this show? The people of this country are frustrated.”
