“Man Seeking Woman” basically rebooted itself for its ambitious third season, but the cast and executive producers say it will be their best season yet.
“One of the things that makes it so good is that we’re never content to rest on our laurels and just do what we did a season prior,” star Jay Baruchel said at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Thursday. “This is the season we’ve earned.”
This year, the FXX comedy abandoned its exploration of modern dating and courtship, instead choosing to explore a longterm adult relationship in it’s first completely serialized season. “How to Get Away With Murder’s” Katie Findlay joined the cast this season as Baruchel’s fiancee, and she receives nearly as much of the show’s attention as Baruchel himself.
“I told [FX CEO John Landgraf] we wanted to be way more ambitious this year … that we wanted to examine an adult relationship from it’s inception all the way to the wedding day,” series creator Simon Rich said. “And Landgraf said, ‘Cool.’”
“The amazing thing about working for this network is you have the freedom to take enormous creative risks,” he said, “I can’t express how grateful we are to get to make this show … We’ve all worked on a lot of projects in our lives and the opportunity to make something you really, really believe in and love, it’s a rare one.”
